Flea’s VIP: Mike Roberts
Mike joined the sanctuary’s volunteering team last summer and has since become the mainstay of our weekend socialisers. From around midday at the weekends you can find Mike sitting in one of the pens on Kitty corridor playing games with one of our furry friends or just patientlywaiting until a shy feline musters up the courage to come out and say hello. Mike has taken interaction one step further by playing movies on his iPad to the cats, such as ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ which they seem to enjoy and has played an important role in establishing a feeling of security and comfort in the cats.
A fair description of Mike would be ‘Cat Whisperer’ as his presence has made a huge difference to the lives of our more reticent residents. He struck up a close bond with Heldig after spending many hours with her, providing her with the human contact of which she had previously been wary. Thanks to the hours he spent with her, Heldig’s true nature began to shine through and for this reason she found her happy ever after home. Mike’s other talents include writing touching pieces about the animals on the corridor, some of which you will read in editions of Fleamail. He is also great at providing updates on the corridor residents and highlighting their unique characteristics in his eloquent writings.
Mike in such a short time has become invaluable to the sanctuary and has had such a positive effect on the animals here. He is also such a likeable person to have around and is held in high esteem by all the team. On behalf of everyone here, both 2 and 4 legged, thank you Mike for everything you do!
